Repair of the left-bank embankment of the Petrinjčica River in Petrinja, damaged by the earthquake.

Remediation works on the 125-meter-long left-bank levee of the Petrinjčica River in Petrinja involved improving the foundation soil by constructing jet-grouted columns with an average length of 6.5 m, followed by levee rehabilitation. The rehabilitation process entailed removing the existing levee and reconstructing it through new fill placement, including embedding the structure 1.5 m into the foundation soil. Geogrids were also installed within the foundation soil zone.

The designed levee features a trapezoidal cross-section with upstream and downstream slope gradients of 1:2, and a landside berm with a gradient of 1:2.5. The levee crest elevation is set at 102.25 m a.s.l., with a crest width of 3.7 m.

The works were carried out during 2022 and 2023. Remediation works performed:

  • Removal of the existing damaged embankment

  • Construction of jet-grouted columns to improve the foundation soil

  • Construction of a temporary embankment

  • Construction of a new embankment

  • Construction of a promenade on the embankment crest (asphalting the pedestrian path, installation of…

bench, installation of concrete pavers and kerbs)
