First, the supporting zone of the embankment was constructed using gravelly material. Following the completion of this phase, the impermeable upstream material—a bentonite membrane—was installed and anchored at the crest of the supporting zone embankment and at the upstream toe. In the third phase, a protective layer was placed over the installed bentonite membrane; like the supporting zone, this protective layer was constructed from gravelly material in compacted layers.
